Episode 122 - Oleta Adams

The story on Oleta Adams is that she was discovered playing piano in a Kansas City hotel bar by the guys from Tears For Fears, who then brought her in to sing on their 1989 album The Seeds of Love, thus launching her stellar solo career. As you'll find from our conversation, it wasn't exactly that simple. Oleta had been toiling away for over a decade on the hotel entertainment circuit before Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith followed through on the promises many before them had made and broken. She did break big duetting on their hit "Woman in Chains" before nailing her own solo hit "Get Here" in 1991. Since then Oleta has had a steady solo career, but despite her success she's never ventured far from her roots. At the end of the day, success has really just given her the freedom to be herself. She also put out a new album this year called Third Set which harkens back to her roots. She still sounds amazing!

This was a really Interesting interview. I have been a Fan Mrs. Oleta Adams since Tears of Fears Seeds of Love Album because my DaD until this Day us a Huge Fan. Then I rediscovered her when I was a Junior in high School. I remember like yesterday going to the record store buying her cassette and getting put on punishment for playing it too much. I always have be infatuated with her because she is a Lovely Lady a real Beauty a Black woman with real features and a Smile like sunshine. I also Loved that she sang/sings and you can understand every word crystal clear. With a voice like hers you would think she would be a Superstar. Not to forget her piano skills as well. Ballads, Jazz, Blues, Pop, R&B, Gospel a composer, songwriter, producer all wrapped up in a tiny package. I would Love to sit down and hear her stories because being in the business this long I Know she has some STORIES. As a Super Fan I am glad Mrs. Adams didn't hit super stardom because we may not have her today if that makes sense but to bad she couldn't have the super star bucks because she deserves it. Thank You for one of the BEST INTERVIEWS To the date. Also Thanks you to Mrs. Oleta Adams for giving this nerdy Clarinet player and escape from bullies and such. #Blessings

I have to describe Oleta Adams as "the singer who brings GOD into the room!" You don't know how much I enjoyed hearing this interview. It is the very first interview I've ever heard with her and it just makes me want to have a conversation with her. I had no idea she'd been in the business since the early 70's, but I'm not surprised. I thank you for this view into Oleta's world. She will always remain my favorite musician/artist/vocalist! Brava!
